We are so close to Africa here in Andalusia, we wanted to see Tangier. This was not a trip we wanted to do on our own, so we arranged for a private tour (the only option there was) to go to Morocco. We got picked up at 6AM and returned at 10PM--it was a long day, but definitely worth it. We drove to Tarifa--the closest city to Tangier and took a ferry across.
When we landed and walked out of the ferry terminal this is what greeted us. These walled cities are everywhere (both in Morocco and in Southern Spain.
We met our guide and driver who took us through the modern city first. There is amazing wealth in one section, but from international $$ (Saudi, UAE, etc. and USA). This place was owned by Forbes.
We then went to this lighthouse where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet. This is Mustafa, our guide.
We spent the rest of the day walking through the Kasbah and Medina. The Kasbah was the fortress and the Medina the town (but they both had winding stress and people living there). Very confusing, but very cool. Here are some of the streets and tile that's on walls.
This wall is part of the Kasbah--when we walked through its gate there was a lovely view of the Straight of Gibraltar.

Back in the Medina, we visited Moshe Nahon Synagogue. It was quite beautiful. They had one really old Torah that was written on leather or hides of some sort. I had never seen that before.
This was another great day. When we passed the Rock of Gibraltar it was at dawn or dusk, so I got this photo off the internet. I never could get a good shot. It is very impressive.
Back in Malaga we had dinner at 11 PM at a cafe in front of the church next to our hotel.
So glad we went to Tangier.
