We had a lovely day visiting the mountain town of Villdamossa. It's about a half an hour outside of Palma. It was a beautiful ride up through the mountains.
George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent a few months here living in a Carthusian monastery, so the town is everything Chopin and Sand. We were able to hear a short Chopin concert.
And wandered through the monastery and a small royal palace.
This is the view from the patio where Chopin and Sand lived. They were here in the winter, so it probably wasn't this sunny. Chopin's tuberculosis got worse while on Mallorca so they had to leave.
There was a small museum in the monastery that was modest, but nice. They had Sand's novel that she finished here and some of Chopin's music that was written in Valldemossa. There was also a small gallery of local artists who painted Valldemossa.
And of course there was a Miro exhibit. This one was quite interesting. It consisted of 50 of his posers. He made thousands of posters so his art could be more accessible to the public and also to promote political causes both local and international. In addition, he promoted all kinds of public events including futbol clubs.
We really enjoyed walking the town and having tapas overlooking the mountains.
We ended the day on the rooftop bar at our hotel overlooking Palma.
We really enjoyed Mallorca. Tomorrow we're off to Barcelona.
