Today was absolutely amazing. We took a small group tour with four other people to the birth place of Salvador Dalí--Figures near the border of France. It was about a 90 minute drive north of Barcelona. We also went to Cadaqués by the sea and toured the house where Dalí and his wife Gala lived. The museum was built around an old theatre with new parts added on.
The painting below filled the entire stage of the old theatre. It was ginormous!
Dalí and Gala designed the museum and figured out what would be shown here. There was an unbelievable conglomeration of art. I guess surrealism brings in dreamworlds, mysticism, and more. What a wonderous world Dalí created here.
The Persistence of Memory was stunning.
Couldn't get the whole ceiling painting in of the feet of Gala and Dalí
I never knew that Dalí had illustrated Alice in Wonderland. The art work was breathtaking.

There was so much at the museum that wasn't surrealist. It really gave a broad view of Dalí's range. Here's one of Cadaqués, where he and Gala spent their summers.
These next two paintings were across from each other. The first is a self portrait and the second is of Picasso. :-)
So I can't put my hundreds of art photos on the blog, but one more is important. Aside from sculptures and all types of media, Dalí also made jewelry. Who knew?

When we left the museum we drove 45 minutes over mountains to get to the seaside town of Cadaqués.

There was a big marathon and swimming competition in the town. There were tons of people. We lucked out and got a seaside table at Bar Meliton
After lunch, we had a very informative and intriguing tour of Dali and Gala's' home.

Great day!!

I feel I must go to this museum. And to the seaside town. As soon as possible. Amazing!
